I chose The Autobiography of Malcolm X because he as an individual has always fascinated me especially being a Muslim myself. And although I do not agree with the racist doctrine of his early preaching I definitely respect his impact on America and his refusal to compromise for the well being of his people. The controversy surrounding his life is something that I found intriguing. Him being a figure I've always wanted to learn more about is my main reason for choosing this book.

The book i choose to read for my summer project was The Last of The Mohicans. I mainly choose to read this book because it seemed interesting to have more action in it than any other of the books to choose from. Another big factor was because it was one of the only books I had easy access to both the text and the movie.

I chose to read Wag the Dog because of it is a political satire, and I have known satires to be enjoyable. I also like politics and I thought that keeping my mind open to new ideas would be a good way to keep myself engaged in the subject.
I read “Snow Falling on Cedars because it interested me with the murder trial, and it was the only book that I could read, and watch the movie. It was more than just a murder trial it also showed a lot of prejudice the Japanese endured during the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor. It highlighted the unfairness that white Americans showed toward people of Japanese descent before, during, and after World War II; even to those who fought for the U.S during the Wars. The book’s plot was centered on one Japanese-American man who was the defendant in a murder case. Overall it was a great book and really changed my way of thinking of others. -Andrew Meyer
Ollicia Anderson - The book I chose to read was the Killer Angels. This book is about the Battle of Gettysburg which is a huge battle in the American Civil War. I loved how the book used real historical figures rather than made up ones. Chamberlain was one of my favorite character. He was smart and versatile which is why he won the battle defensively. Lee was too aggressive which became a problem for him in the end. The reason I chose to read this book is because I have always been interested in historical wars and I figured the Battle of Gettysburg would be a great place to start. The beginning of the book is rather slow and boring but once you get into it's very hard to put this book down.
The book I read was Uncle Tom's cabin, not because I chose it, but because my mom already bought it. This book is very depressing and it truly earns its title as period piece that's to the great use of the "N" word. The moments of relief in this novel were as fleeting and tiny as the happiness of the characters. if I were alive while this book was written, I would move heaven and earth so that the events in the book we end in real life.

The book that I selected as my Summer Reading Assignment was The Autobiography of Malcolm X. I have always admired Malcolm X and his philosophy upon The Civil Rights Movement. Most of all, Malcolm X's ability to change his tactics and entire beliefs in the face of a new movement for his religion, ethnicity and America allows me to admire him even more, because he was an courageous man with legions of power and knowledge. This book is truly a movement and has motivated me to study more into my history.
I chose to read The Last of the Mohicans for my summer reading. I chose this book over the others because I have heard many good things about it.I wanted to read a book that I thought would contain the most action as well as being from my favorite period of American history. This book has an intriguing story that occurs in the wild frontier of the American colonies. -Joshua Crowder
I chose We Were Soldiers because, to me the Vietnam war has always been interesting to me due to the fsct the both of my Grandfathers served in the war. I like how in the book the authors do not focus on only one soldier, but two entire battalions. im really looking forward to reading the rest of the book, and then seeing the differences between the book and the movie.
I chose "The Autobiography of Malcolm X", for he was a very intriguing individual. He was a politically-sound person, a strongly Islamic persona, and a powerful speaker. Despite all his racist views, he still impacted America with the same degree as the civil rights. Thus, I chose "The Autobiography of Malcolm X" for summer reading.
