Welcome APUSH'ers
Hello AP US History Students of the Summer 2014e,
Many of you are aware that something happened to the blog and posting was disabled. I only just was able to correct the problems with Google this weekend. I have a How to to help those who haven't posted anything, or just need to submit your final comment. Please do so as soon as you can. Deadlines will be extended to Tuesday, August 19th at 10 pm for all the Summer Blog deadlines.
You can access the Help Sheet by Clicking Here.
You need to post comments three different times for your Summer Reading.
Every time you post, you must include your first and last name-- every time you post (get the idea that your name is important?). Without a name, grades cannot be assigned. Keep in mind that we do not know you by name other than from the legal roster, please put any given names not used in parenthesis).
It is IMPORTANT that you use the username and password included in your Summer Reading packet. (username: mcapush2 password: historyrules)

I'm reading The Grapes of Wrath, I don't really enjoy reading this book, some of the dialogue is challenging to read because the characters have a very strong country dialect, and the writer portrays the way the characters speak by spelling the words incorrectly, causing the words and sentences to be difficult to understand. There also was a whole chapter based solely around a turtle crossing the road, I'm still in the process of reading this book, and I still don't understand why this chapter was included.

I really hate written accents in books. It just irritates me to no end, and it only serves to make the plot harder to understand, even if it does add a touch of realism and detail.

I love this book! I love the side stories that Steinbeck inserts and I really enjoy the use of the misspelled words for the accents. I think I like the chapters that appear as if they have nothing in common with the rest of the book and the plot because with the turtle chapter, it was fun to see how in the next section, Tom picks him up to give as a present to his brother and sister. I like trying to figure out and piece together how those stories fit with the main storyline. I enjoy the dialect used because it lets me envelop myself in the novel and lose myself in the writing. When I take a break and talk with my family I almost always have a bit of a southern accent and I also like that because it makes the book that much more challenging to read and digest. I have to work sometimes to figure things out which I think makes this book become something that I delve into and I can remember, not a novel where I have to read the same paragraph two or three times to understand it. I hope you guys like it better as you read on! I also hope that I maybe gave you a new perspective on it!
Happy reading!
